ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

Lunch tastes better when you have to walk for it.

Pack something good, take something to drink and head out to find your own spot around the lake.

Some of our favourite places are only a short walk away. Others are worth turning into a small adventure. Take the kids, bring a blanket and don't worry too much about finding the perfect place.

Finding it is part of the experience. Once you arrive, unpack lunch, slow down and stay for as long as you like.

YOUR PICNIC SPOT

Four stays. Four places worth walking for.

We picked one of our favourite picnic adventures for each Calm Estate location. Pack something good, open the route and make the walk part of the experience.

Picnic on the cliff

20 MIN WALK EASY-MODERATE GOOD SHOES

For The Beach, Ladhus One and Ladhus Two. A relatively easy walk takes you to a cliff overlooking the lake. Wear good shoes for the last part, find somewhere comfortable and stay for a while.

30 MIN WALK MODERATE UPHILL

Walk directly from the house and head uphill through the landscape. This one takes a little more effort, but the view makes the walk worth it.

Picnic in the moor

10 MIN DRIVE + 20 MIN WALK EASY BOARDWALKS

Drive about ten minutes to Komosse, then follow the wooden boardwalks through the moor. The walk itself is part of the experience: easy, unusual and very Swedish.

30 MIN WALK MORE DEMANDING GOOD SHOES

The trail is more demanding, so wear proper shoes and take your time. The reward is an impressive spot where unpacking lunch almost feels secondary to the view.

WHAT TO BRING

Keep it simple.

A good picnic does not need much. Pack light enough that carrying everything is still part of the fun.

01
EAT

Something good

Sandwiches, fruit, cinnamon buns, cheese and snacks all travel well. Don't overthink the menu.

02
DRINK

Coffee & water

Fill a thermos, bring enough water and perhaps something cold for when you arrive.

03
PACK

The useful stuff

Bring a blanket, good shoes, swimwear when it's warm, insect repellent in summer and an extra layer for later.

LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND

Bring a small bag for your rubbish and leave the place exactly as you found it.

A SMALL FAVOUR

These are my own picnic spots.

These are not tourist attractions. They are places I go myself, places I take my family and places I genuinely think are worth sharing.

I am happy to share them with Calm Estate guests because I trust that you will treat them with the same respect.

01

Leave absolutely nothing behind.

Take every wrapper, bottle, tissue and piece of food waste back with you. If I start finding rubbish at these places, I will have to remove them from this guide again.

TAKE MEMORIES. LEAVE THE PLACE EXACTLY AS YOU FOUND IT.
KEEP EXPLORING

Don't head home just yet.

If you are already outside, these are easy ways to turn the picnic into a full day around the lake.
